About Gillenia stipulata (Muhl. ex Willd.) Bergmans
Gillenia stipulata, commonly known as American ipecac, is a herbaceous perennial plant belonging to the genus Gillenia in the Rosaceae family. It is native to the United States, where its range extends to Texas in the west and south, New York in the north, and North Carolina in the east. This species grows in dry uplands and open woods, most commonly on acidic soils. It grows to approximately 1 metre (3.3 ft) tall, and produces white flowers with 5 very narrow, widely spaced petals.
