Gilia tenuiflora Benth. has a multibranched stem that grows from a basal rosette of leaves. Each leaf is divided into long, straight leaflets. Its flowers are lavender, with a long stigma that sticks out from the flower throat. Contrary to what the species' common name suggests, the throat is usually not yellow, and instead ranges in color from purple to white.
