About Gilia nevinii A.Gray ex Lyon

Gilia nevinii, commonly called Nevin's gilia, is an uncommon flowering plant species in the phlox family. It is only found on the Channel Islands of California and Guadalupe Island off Baja California, where it grows in seaside canyons and flats. This plant is an erect herb with a hairy stem that grows up to roughly 40 centimeters tall. Its stem is lined with deeply lobed leaves. A glandular inflorescence bears lavender flowers with yellow throats, each 8 to 14 millimeters wide. The flowers have protruding stamens that are tipped with blue anthers.
