About Gilia clivorum (Jeps.) V.E.Grant
Gilia clivorum is a species of flowering plant in the phlox family, with the common names purplespot gilia and many-stemmed gilia. It is native to California and Arizona. This common wildflower grows a number of erect stems, which reach a maximum height of 6 to 30 centimeters. The plant is leafy, particularly on the lower portions of its stems; each leaf is divided into small, lance-shaped leaflets. Its inflorescence holds between one and five hairy, glandular flowers, each less than one centimeter long. The corolla lobes range in color from very light to deep purple or blue, and the flower throat is lighter in color, marked with dark purple and yellow spots. The fruit is a small capsule that contains many seeds.
