About Geum rossii (R.Br.) Ser.
Geum rossii (R.Br.) Ser. is a flowering plant species in the rose family, commonly known as Ross' avens and alpine avens. It is native to North America, with a distribution covering northern Canada and the high mountains of the western United States. It grows in high-latitude and high-elevation habitats, including the Arctic and alpine climate zones. There are three recognized varieties of this species. One variety, Geum rossii var. depressum, is endemic to the state of Washington in the United States, where it is only found in the Wenatchee Mountains. The flowers of this plant look similar to the flowers of species in the Potentilla, or cinquefoil, genus. Unlike those species, Geum rossii produces fewer flowers per stem, and its leaves are somewhat fern-like in appearance.
