They have brown-colored upper body plumage, and underparts that range from white to off-white, marked with prominent dark spotting. The species' natural habitats include subtropical or tropical dry forest, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, subtropical or tropical moist montane forest, and subtropical or tropical moist shrubland. Geokichla guttata is currently threatened by habitat loss.
