About Gentiana septemfida Pall.
Gentiana septemfida, commonly known as the crested gentian or summer gentian, is a species of flowering plant in the family Gentianaceae. It is native to the Caucasus and Turkey. This low-growing herbaceous perennial reaches 15 to 20 cm (6 to 8 in) tall and spreads to 30 cm (12 in) wide. In summer, it produces up to eight bright blue, trumpet-shaped flowers that have striped interiors. It grows best in rich, moist soil and full sun. The Latin specific epithet septemfida translates to "with seven divisions". In cultivation, both the species itself and its darker-flowered variety G. septemfida var. lagodechiana have been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
