Gentiana sedifolia Kunth is a small herb species that has narrow, opposite leaves, which grow up to 0.7 cm long. It produces small funnel-shaped flowers that reach up to 1 cm in diameter. The flowers are pale blue or violet, with a yellow, white, or pale yellow center, and they close at night, as well as during cold or cloudy weather. This species grows in bogs located in high elevation grasslands, specifically puna and páramo, and its native range extends from Costa Rica to northern Chile. It can be found in several protected areas, including Cajas National Park, Huascarán National Park, and Junín National Reserve.
