About Gentiana acaulis subsp. dinarica (Beck) Barina
Gentiana acaulis subsp. dinarica (Beck) Barina is a perennial evergreen plant. It reaches a maximum height of 10 centimetres (3.9 in), and forms spreading mats up to 50 centimetres (20 in) wide. Its leaves are arranged in a basal rosette that forms clumps; they may be lanceolate, elliptical, or obovate, and measure 2–3.5 cm in length. The trumpet-shaped terminal flowers are blue, with olive-green spotted longitudinal patterns on their throats. Flowers grow on very short peduncles 3–6 cm long. The flower stem is often leafless, or may bear 1 or 2 pairs of leaves. This subspecies prefers full sun, is fully hardy, and blooms in late spring and summer. The minute single crystals found in its leaves are not true raphides.
