About Gastrolobium calycinum Benth.
Gastrolobium calycinum Benth. is an upright, bushy shrub that reaches up to 1.5 m (4 ft 11 in) in height. Its leaves range from broadly oval to orb-shaped, taper to a sharp point, and measure 2.54–5.08 cm (1.00–2.00 in) long. The leaves are stiff, veined, sometimes covered with a whitish coating, and arranged opposite one another or in groups of three. This species produces yellow pea-shaped flowers arranged in short racemes. The bracts are brown, stiff, concave, and rounded. The standard petal is shorter than the calyx, while the wing petals are the same length as the keel. Flowering takes place from August to November. Also known as York Road poison, this plant grows in a variety of habitats, including hills and flats with clay, loam, or sandy soils, in Western Australia.
