About Ganoderma curtisii (Berk.) Murrill

This polypore species strongly resembles Ganoderma lucidum, and it usually has a stipe. It sometimes lacks the characteristic red to purple varnished appearance that G. lucidum has. Its pore tissue has a spongy texture, while its stipe is firm. When damaged, the pores bruise brown. This mushroom prefers to grow on decaying stumps and roots of hardwoods, matching the preferred habitat of G. sessile. The species is primarily found in the Southeastern United States. Craig and Levetin have reported observing it in Oklahoma.
