About Galphimia gracilis Bartl.
Galphimia gracilis Bartl. can be easily distinguished from the related species Galphimia glauca and Galphimia brasiliensis by features of its flowers. When the fruit of G. gracilis matures, its petals fall off, while petals of G. glauca remain attached even after fruit development. On the dense inflorescence of G. gracilis, many flowers are open at the same time. The full petals of G. gracilis, including both the claw and the limb, measure 8โ14 mm (0.31โ0.55 in) long and 4โ8 mm (0.16โ0.31 in) wide. In contrast, G. brasiliensis has a sparse inflorescence where only two or three small flowers are open at one time, and its petals only reach 4โ5 mm (0.16โ0.20 in) long and around 3 mm (0.12 in) wide. The pollen grains of G. gracilis are spherical, with an approximate diameter of 16-18 microns.
