About Gallirallus striatus (Linnaeus, 1766)
The slaty-breasted rail (Lewinia striata) is a rail species native to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Breeding of this species has been recorded in July near Dehradun, located in the foothills of the Indian Himalayas. Although it was traditionally classified as part of the genus Gallirallus, recent genetic studies have consistently placed it in the genus Lewinia. This reclassification is now formally recognised by both the IUCN and IOC.
