About Galium album Mill.
This species has the scientific name Galium album Mill. Its stems can grow to at least 150 centimetres (5 feet), and are more or less erect with ascending branches. In cross-section, the stems are square with slight flanges. The entire plant is relatively hairless, and both its leaves and stems are shiny. Its flowers are white or yellowish, and its fruits are hairless. Galium album is widespread across most of Europe, and is native to a large area extending from Britain to Morocco, and eastward to Turkey and Western Siberia. It has been introduced and become naturalized in Ireland, Scandinavia, Greenland and South Australia. It grows in pastures and grassy banks, especially on dry calcareous soils. Within Britain, G. album is found locally in lowland England, is rare in the north of Britain, and is very rare in Scotland.
