About Gagea lutea (L.) Ker Gawl.
Gagea lutea (L.) Ker Gawl., commonly called the yellow star-of-Bethlehem, is a Eurasian flowering plant species belonging to the family Liliaceae. It is widespread across central Europe, with scattered populations extending from Great Britain, Spain, and Norway east to Siberia and Japan. This species is a bulb-forming herbaceous perennial that grows lanceolate leaves, and produces green-tinged yellow flowers that each have six tepals. It is predominantly a lowland species that lives in moist, base-rich, shady habitats. These habitats include broad-leaf woodlands, hedgerows, limestone pavements, pastures, and riverbanks. In East Anglia, Gagea lutea has been used as an indicator of ancient woodland.
