About Fuchsia boliviana Carrière
Fuchsia boliviana Carrière is a medium evergreen shrub with an open, spreading growth habit. It typically reaches 2–4 meters in height, and rarely grows as tall as 6 meters. This species has large, hairy mid-green leaves and red petioles. It produces large drooping corymbs up to 20 cm long in late summer and autumn; the individual scarlet red flowers are 3–7 cm long. There is a white-flowering cultivar named 'Alba', which has a white floral tube and scarlet petals. After flowering, the plant bears small red-purple edible fruit that is 10–26 mm long. Fuchsia boliviana is widely grown in shade or part-shade in cooler, subtropical climates. Plants need protection from direct sun and temperatures above 40 °C. They can tolerate short periods at temperatures as low as approximately −4 °C. Propagation of this plant is done by seed or cuttings.
