Frangula azorica is a tall semi-deciduous shrub or small tree that belongs to the Rhamnaceae plant family. This species is endemic to the Azores, which is part of Portugal. Available fossil evidence indicates that Frangula azorica was also previously native to Madeira, but the population there has gone extinct. Currently, Frangula azorica is threatened by habitat loss.
