About Fowlea asperrimus (Boulenger, 1891)

Fowlea asperrimus, commonly referred to as F. asperrima, has a short, cylindrical body, a distinct neck, and a slightly pointed head. Its eyes have rounded pupils, and its narrow nostrils face slightly upward. This species has a long tail. Hatchlings measure 10 cm (3.9 in) at birth, while adult individuals reach a total length of 40 to 70 cm (16 to 28 in), with females growing longer than males. This snake is native to Sri Lanka, where it occurs in both dry and wet climatic zones up to 1,000 m (3,300 ft) above mean sea level. It is abundant in aquatic habitats including flooded rice fields, ponds, lakes, marshes, rivers, and streams.
