About Flavoparmelia caperata (L.) Hale

Flavoparmelia caperata is a medium to large foliose lichen. When dry, it has a very distinctive pale yellow-green upper cortex. Its rounded lobes are 3–8 mm (0.1–0.3 in) wide, and usually bear patches of granular soredia that grow from pustules. The thallus lobes may be smooth, but quite often have a wrinkled appearance, particularly in older specimens. The lower surface of the lichen is black, except for a brown margin along its edge. The rhizoids attached to this lower surface are black and unbranched.
