About Fimbristylis dichotoma (L.) Vahl
Fimbristylis dichotoma (L.) Vahl is an annual or perennial plant with a tufted growth habit, reaching 10–80 cm in height. It produces numerous long stems that are roughly 2 mm in diameter, slightly three-angled, compressed below the inflorescence, smooth, and lack nodes. Its root system is fibrous, wiry, and black, with short rhizomes. It has numerous leaves that grow in a dense tuft at the base of the stem, and are at least half as long as the stem itself. This species is widely distributed across Asia, Africa, Australia, and other tropical regions of the world. It grows well on wet or even flooded soil, and can also be found in uplands with well water-retentive soil. Additional habitats where it occurs include swamps, open waste places, grassy roadsides, Imperata cylindrica grasslands, and some plantation crop areas.
