About Fieldia australis A.Cunn.
Fieldia australis, commonly known simply as fieldia, is the only species in the genus Fieldia. This species is a small climbing plant or epiphyte native to the rainforests of eastern Australia, where its distribution extends from southeastern Queensland through to Victoria. While it is commonly found in cooler high-elevation rainforests, it also grows in warmer, high-humidity rainforests. The plant uses adventitious roots to cling to tree trunks, mossy rocks, and tree ferns. Its leaves measure 3 to 7 cm in length and 1 to 3 cm in width, with a reverse ovate or elliptical shape and toothed edges. The leaf stem is roughly 8 mm long. Flowering occurs most often in summer or autumn, and produces an attractive, relatively long and thin white flower. The fruit of Fieldia australis is a whitish berry with purple markings, shaped egg-like or oblong. It measures 1 to 3 cm long, and around 11 mm in diameter.
