About Ficus punctata Thunb.
Ficus punctata Thunb. is a species in the mulberry family Moraceae. It is a lesser-known climbing woody liana that can also grow as groundcover, and it has remarkable ornamental value, making it suitable for introduction to garden settings. It has been reported to grow in Myanmar, the Andaman-Nicobar Archipelago, Thailand, Indochina, Malaysia, and Indonesia. The species produces striking, spectacular white-spotted orange or red fruits, which give it a handsome appearance. In the wild, it occurs most often in disturbed forests, and is only rarely found along the edges of evergreen forests. This species can be identified in the field by its climbing growth habit, the presence of milky latex, its rhomboidal obovate coriaceous leaves, and its beautiful spotted crimson-orange fruits. Its symbiotic pollinator partner is the fig wasp Wiebesia contubernalis, which pollinates this Ficus.
