About Festuca octoflora Walter
Festuca octoflora Walter, also classified as Vulpia octoflora, is an annual grass species belonging to the family Poaceae. It is commonly called six-week fescue, a name that comes from its ability to provide around six weeks of cattle forage following rain. Additional common names for this species include sixweeks fescue, six-weeks fescue, pullout grass, eight-flower six-weeks grass, and eight-flowered fescue. This native North American bunchgrass grows across a large portion of Canada, all 48 contiguous lower United States, and Baja California, Mexico. It occupies open, sunny locations, including areas growing between shrubs and burned sites, and is frequently found in burn areas after a fire occurs.
