About Feniseca tarquinius (Fabricius, 1793)

Feniseca tarquinius, commonly known as the harvester, is a butterfly in the family Lycaenidae. It is the only member of the monotypic genus Feniseca, and belongs to the subfamily Miletinae. This species is found in eastern North America, inhabiting wooded areas near streams that are close to alders. It can be seen flying from early spring through fall, and is generally considered a scarce butterfly. Its wingspan measures 23 to 32 mm. As an entirely carnivorous, specifically insectivorous, butterfly, it is the only obligate carnivore butterfly native to North America.
