About Feltia herilis Grote, 1873

Feltia herilis, commonly known as the herald dart or Master's dart, is a moth species belonging to the family Noctuidae. This species was first formally described by Augustus Radcliffe Grote in 1873. Its range in North America extends from Vancouver Island to Newfoundland, north to the border of the Northwest Territories, and south to the Gulf Coast. The wingspan of adult Feltia herilis ranges from 34 to 44 mm. Adult moths are active from July to October, and the species produces one generation per year. The larvae of this moth feed on a very broad range of plants, including cultivated crops, forage crops, vegetables, forbs, and herbs. Adult Feltia herilis have been recorded feeding on nectar, with at least one specific recorded observation of feeding on Liatris.
