About Fatsia polycarpa Hayata

Fatsia polycarpa, common name many-fruited aralia, is a species of flowering plant in the family Araliaceae. It is endemic to Taiwan, where it faces threats from habitat loss. This is a substantial evergreen shrub, growing up to 4 m (13 ft) tall and 2.5 m (8.2 ft) broad. It bears large palmate leaves reaching 30 cm (12 in) in size. Spherical clusters of cream or white flowers bloom in winter, and black fruits develop after the flowers in spring. Fatsia polycarpa is cultivated as an ornamental plant. In temperate climates, it can be grown outdoors in a sheltered spot that does not experience frost. In other conditions, it should be grown under glass in bright light, but not direct sunlight. The cultivar 'Green Fingers' is slightly more tender than the species, and has slightly narrower leaves.
