About Falconeria insignis Royle
Falconeria is a monotypic plant genus in the family Euphorbiaceae, first described as a genus in 1839. This genus is sometimes classified within the genus Sapium. Its only accepted species is Falconeria insignis Royle. This species can be found across a range that extends from India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka to Indochina, Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, and the Chinese provinces of Hainan, Sichuan, and Yunnan. In 1883, the same genus name Falconeria was used for a different plant group belonging to Plantaginaceae. This created an illegitimate homonym, which is not allowed under botanical nomenclature rules. The only species ever placed in this homonymic genus was Falconeria himalaica Hook.f., which has since been renamed Wulfenia himalaica (Hook.f.) Pennell.
