About Fagus hayatae Palib. ex Hayata

Fagus hayatae, commonly called Taiwan beech, is a species of beech tree. This species can grow up to 20 metres, which is equivalent to 66 feet, in height. It is the only beech species that is native to Taiwan. The International Union for Conservation of Nature lists Fagus hayatae as endemic to Taiwan. However, both Flora of China and Flora of Taiwan document that this species also occurs in China. According to Flora of China, Fagus hayatae has a wide but discontinuous distribution on the Chinese mainland, ranging from Sichuan in the southwest to Zhejiang in the east.
