About Exelis pyrolaria Guenée, 1857

Exelis pyrolaria, commonly called the fine-lined gray moth or the plumose gray moth, is a moth species belonging to the family Geometridae. This species is found in North America. Within North America, it has only been recorded in areas east of the Mississippi River, and south of Illinois and the District of Columbia. Adult males of this species have a wingspan measuring 22 to 25 millimeters, while adult females have a smaller wingspan ranging from 19 to 24 millimeters. Adult moths have been observed flying from February through September, with the majority of sightings falling between May and August. The larvae of Exelis pyrolaria have been documented feeding on Chimaphila umbellata and Diospyros virginiana.
