About Evolvulus nummularius (L.) L.
Evolvulus nummularius (L.) L., commonly called the dwarf morning glory, is a flowering plant species in the morning-glory family. It can grow as either an annual or a perennial plant. This species is distributed across the tropics and subtropics, ranging across extensive areas of tropical Africa, South Africa, and Madagascar. It is recognized as a naturalized alien plant in Taiwan and the Tiwi Islands of Australia. E. nummularius is used as a mild sedative and has anthelmintic properties. In Indian traditional medicine, it is used to treat burns, cuts, wounds, and scorpion stings, in addition to being used as an anthelmintic. Phytochemical studies of the aerial parts of E. nummularius have identified multiple bioactive constituents, including β-sitosterol, glucoside, stigmasterol, d-mannitol, ursolic acid, and oleanolic acid. Furthermore, three compounds that had not been previously reported have been isolated and their structures determined using spectroscopic and chemical methods; these three compounds are derivatives of stigmastane, coumaroyl, and ursane.
