About Evergestis extimalis Scopoli
Evergestis extimalis Scopoli is a moth species belonging to the family Crambidae. It is distributed in the Palearctic realm. This moth has a wingspan of 27 to 31 millimeters.
Its forewings are pale ochreous-yellow, and are darker toward the terminal edge. The forewing lines and discal spot are barely darker than the surrounding wing tissue, and are marked with a small number of fuscous dots. A brown suffusion covers the terminal edge of the forewing, and this brown area is more or less strongly widened toward the middle of the edge. The forewing cilia are fuscous. The hindwings are prismatic yellowish-white; their terminal margin is yellower, with a brownish tinge.
Full-grown larvae are pale yellow, with a darker dorsal line, pale purple coloration along the lateral area, and black spots that sit along the lateral line. The larval head is black.
Adults of Evergestis extimalis fly from June to September, with flight timing varying by location. Larvae of this species feed on species in the plant family Brassicaceae, and they prefer to feed on the plants' seed-heads.
