About Euxoa ochrogaster Guenée, 1852

Euxoa ochrogaster, commonly known as the red-backed cutworm, is a species of moth in the family Noctuidae. Its geographic range extends from Iceland and northern Europe, through the Baltic region, to the Amur region. In North America, it occurs from Alaska to Newfoundland and Labrador, reaching south into the northern United States, and extending further south along the Rocky Mountains into Arizona and New Mexico. Adult moths are active in flight from the end of July to the beginning of September. The larvae of this species feed on a wide variety of broadleaf plants and grasses, including species in the genus Plantago. In North America, this species is economically important as a pest affecting cultivated Helianthus annuus, the common sunflower. In British Columbia, Canada, these moths can be infected by the fungus Tarichium megaspermum, which belongs to the order Entomophthorales.
