Euthamia occidentalis Nutt. is a scrubby perennial plant. It produces many green stems that fade to a dull brownish-green as they age, and bears small green leaves. This plant grows abundant clusters of yellowish flowers, which bloom from July to November. It is a common species native to western North America, where its range spans British Columbia and Alberta, the western United States extending from the Pacific Coast eastward to Montana, Nebraska, and New Mexico, and Baja California. It occurs most frequently near water, in habitats including wetlands, ditches, and marshes.
