About Euthalia recta (de Nicéville, 1886)

Bassarona recta, also referred to by the scientific name Euthalia recta (de Nicéville, 1886) and commonly called the redtail marquis, is a nymphalid butterfly species found in South and South-East Asia. This species is much rarer than Euthalia teuta, and has two annual broods that have distinct forms tied to season. Dry-season brood individuals have very broad longitudinal bands on both wings; female dry-season individuals have a uniform red-brown underside to their wings. Wet-season brood individuals have a dark brown wing underside that is richly clouded with black. The confirmed range of this species includes Assam, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Peninsular Malaysia, and Langkawi.
