About Eutaxia microphylla (R.Br.) C.H.Wright & Dewar

Plants of Eutaxia microphylla grow between 30 and 40 centimetres in height. The species has small, grey-green leaves that range from narrow to ovate in shape, measuring 2.3 to 4 mm long and 0.6 to 0.9 mm wide. Its single pea-shaped flowers have dark red keels, yellow-orange wings, and a yellow-orange standard with red markings on the back. These flowers are produced between July and October within the species' native range. Eutaxia microphylla has been recorded across southern South Australia and north-eastern Tasmania. In Victoria, it occurs predominantly in the west of the state. In New South Wales, it has been recorded in mallee and Mugga Ironbark plant communities west of the Great Dividing Range. Plant genera that are associated with Eutaxia microphylla include Acacia, Eucalyptus, and Eremophila. In ecological interactions, caterpillars of the Fringed Blue butterfly feed on this plant species.
