About Eurybia conspicua (Lindl.) G.L.Nesom

Eurybia conspicua, commonly called the western showy aster, is a North American plant species in the Asteraceae family. It is native to western Canada, ranging from Manitoba to British Columbia, and the western United States, where it grows in the northern Cascades, northern Rockies, Black Hills, and other mountains of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and South Dakota. This species is a perennial herb that spreads via underground rhizomes, forming loose clonal colonies. Individual plants can produce a flat-topped cluster holding 5 to 50 flower heads. Each flower head contains 12 to 35 blue or violet ray florets, surrounding 48 to 55 yellow disc florets.
