About Euprepiophis mandarinus (Cantor, 1842)

Euprepiophis mandarinus (first described by Cantor in 1842) is a relatively small rat snake. Adult individuals of this species reach a maximum total length (including body and tail) of 1.4 meters, which is equal to 4 feet 7 inches. This species is distributed across India (the state of Arunachal Pradesh), Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Taiwan, and China. Within China, it has been recorded in Anhui, Beijing, Chongqing, Fujian, Gansu, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hainan, Hebei, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Liaoning, Shaanxi, Shanghai, Shanxi, Sichuan, Tianjin, Tibet, Yunnan, and Zhejiang. The species' type locality, as noted by Cantor in his 1842 original description, is Zhoushan Island (originally transcribed as Chusan island when referring to the region of Chekiang, the older name for modern Zhejiang, China).
