About Euphyes pilatka (Edwards, 1867)

Euphyes pilatka, commonly known as the Palatka skipper or saw-grass skipper, is a butterfly species belonging to the family Hesperiidae. This species is native to the United States, where its range extends from southeastern Virginia southward through peninsular Florida and the Florida Keys, then westward along the Gulf Coast to southern Mississippi. Stray individuals of this species can be found as far north as northern Maryland and as far southwest as southwestern Louisiana. The wingspan of adult Euphyes pilatka measures between 45 and 54 mm. The larvae of this butterfly feed on the leaves of Cladium jamaicensis, and they reside in shelters made from rolled leaves.
