About Euphyes bimacula (Grote & Robinson, 1867)

Euphyes bimacula, commonly known as the two-spotted skipper, is a butterfly species that belongs to the family Hesperiidae. This species is distributed across North America, with its range extending from northeast Colorado and western Nebraska, east through eastern Nebraska to southern Quebec; from southern Maine south to central Virginia; along the coastal plain south to Georgia; and also along the Gulf Coast. The wingspan of adult two-spotted skippers measures 25 to 30 mm. The upperside of their wings is dark brown, while the underside is pale tawny orange. The larvae of Euphyes bimacula feed exclusively on Carex trichocarpa. Adult two-spotted skippers feed on nectar from a variety of flowers, including pickerelweed, sweet pepperbush, blue flag, common milkweed, and spiraea. This species is classified as endangered under the authority of the state of Connecticut.
