About Euphrasia officinalis L.
Euphrasia officinalis L., commonly called eyebright or eyewort, is a plant species that belongs to the Orobanchaceae family. In traditional Austrian medicine, the herb of Euphrasia officinalis is used internally as tea, or externally as compresses, to treat disorders affecting the eyes and the gastrointestinal tract. One preliminary study has found that Euphrasia officinalis shows protective effects against UVB-induced photoaging. The recognized synonyms for E. officinalis are E. rostkoviana (named for Prussian botanist Friedrich Wilhelm Gottlieb Rostkovius) and E. fennica.
