About Euphorbia rigida M.Bieb.
Euphorbia rigida, commonly called gopher spurge or upright myrtle spurge, is a flowering plant species belonging to the spurge family Euphorbiaceae. It is native to southern Europe and southwest Asia. This bushy evergreen perennial grows to be 50 cm (20 inches) tall and wide. It has somewhat fleshy leaves arranged in a spiral, and produces bunches of bright yellow flowers in late spring. Within its native range of the Mediterranean Basin and the Middle East, it is classified as a weed. It has also grown spontaneously in the California wilderness, but is not considered a noxious weed there. Like other members of the genus Euphorbia, all parts of Euphorbia rigida are toxic if ingested. When the plant is cut or broken, the injured areas release a milky sap that can cause skin irritation.
