About Euphorbia micromera Boiss.

Euphorbia micromera Boiss. is a species of flowering plant in the spurge family, Euphorbiaceae. Its common name is Sonoran sandmat. This species is native to the southwestern United States, ranging from California to Texas, and northern Mexico. It grows in sandy soils in desert and other dry habitats. It is an annual herb that grows as a small mat made of slender stems. Its leaves are oblong, hairy to hairless, and only a few millimeters long. The plant’s tiny inflorescence is a cyathium less than one millimeter wide, and it lacks the appendages found on the cyathia of many similar related species. The cyathium holds just one central female flower and two to five male flowers, all surrounded by round red nectar glands. The fruit it produces is a very small round capsule.
