About Euphorbia ipecacuanhae L.

Euphorbia ipecacuanhae L. (common names: Carolina ipecac, American ipecac, ipecac spurge) is a perennial herb in the spurge family, Euphorbiaceae. This species is native to the eastern United States seaboard, ranging from South Carolina to Long Island. Despite sharing the common name ipecac with Carapichea ipecacuanha, it is not closely related to this species. Even so, it was historically used for the same purpose as Carapichea ipecacuanha: its deep taproot was processed to make a powerful emetic, and served as a local substitute for imported syrup of ipecac.
