About Euphorbia hypericifolia L.

All parts of Euphorbia hypericifolia L. are hairless. Its stems are usually around 50 cm tall, rarely reaching up to 170 cm, and are distinctly arching. Plants produce few to many stems, with conspicuous dense round clusters of flowers and fruit capsules held away from the main stem, as noted by the Flora of North America. This species is often confused with Euphorbia hyssopifolia or Euphorbia nutans when its clusters contain few flowers, in which case the clusters do not have interspersed leaves. Euphorbia hypericifolia is native to the tropical Americas; its native range extends to the southernmost parts of the United States, Mexico, the West Indies, and Central and South America. It has been introduced to Spain, Italy, Greece, the Indian subcontinent, China, South Korea, Myanmar, parts of Indonesia, and sub-Saharan Africa. According to James Mooney, Cherokee Indians used the plant's juice to treat skin eruptions.
