About Euphorbia grandicornis Blanc
Euphorbia grandicornis Blanc is a succulent spiny shrub that grows 0.5 to 2 meters tall. It branches heavily from its base, and its branches are three-angled, either erect or ascending. The branches are deeply divided into constricted segments that measure 5 to 13 centimeters long and 5 to 15 centimeters in diameter, and have a shape ranging from subsagittate-ovate to reniform-sagittate. Small leaves grow between the plant’s spines but fall off early, so the stems carry out most of the plant’s photosynthesis. Its fruit is showy and dehisces, splitting open automatically when it reaches maturity. This species grows in dense dry mixed forest, granite slopes, and rocky areas, at elevations between 40 and 700 meters. In temperate regions, it is cultivated as a houseplant. Researchers have studied chemical compounds from E. grandicornis for potential application in cancer treatment.
