About Euphorbia flanaganii N.E.Br.
Euphorbia flanaganii N.E.Br. is an agglomerated, thorny succulent dwarf shrub that grows 0.02 to 0.05 meters tall. It has a swollen underground stem, and its snake-like branches grow horizontally, reaching up to 400 millimeters in total diameter. Its leaves are quite small, measuring only 10 millimeters long and 1 millimeter wide; careful observation of specimens also reveals modified, needle-like leaves. This species has photosynthetic modified stems that either lack periderm or have delayed periderm development. It also shows radial geometric symmetry, and a seemingly tuberous above-ground root structure. Its inflorescences are cyathia, with a single 4-millimeter-long flower per flower stalk; flowers bloom in late summer and autumn. This plant occurs at altitudes between 30 and 185 meters. It is native to east-central and southeastern Cape Provinces, and southern KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
