About Euphonia luteicapilla (Cabanis, 1861)
The yellow-crowned euphonia, with the scientific name Euphonia luteicapilla, is a species of bird that belongs to the finch family Fringillidae. Its distribution covers Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Panama, and it is likely the most common euphonia species within this range. Its natural habitats include subtropical or tropical dry forest, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forest, and heavily degraded former forest. It may occasionally be found in the canopy of small forests. Males of this species have a completely yellow crown and a dark throat. Females lack a yellow crown; their upper bodies are yellowish olive, and their underparts are dull yellow. Females are mostly indistinguishable from females of other euphonia species, but they are most often observed in pairs or small groups that include males.
