About Euphonia elegantissima (Bonaparte, 1838)

The elegant euphonia, also known as the blue-hooded euphonia, is a species of bird in the finch family Fringillidae. This species is found in Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, and Panama. It was formerly classified in the genus Euphonia under the scientific name Euphonia elegantissima (Bonaparte, 1838), but phylogenetic evidence shows that it actually groups with species in the genus Chlorophonia, where it is currently placed as Chlorophonia elegantissima. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montane forest, and heavily degraded former forest.
