About Eulophia ecristata (Fernald) Ames

Eulophia ecristata (Fernald) Ames, also known by the synonym Orthochilus ecristatus and the common name giant orchid, is a terrestrial orchid species. It is native to Cuba and the southeastern United States, ranging from Louisiana to North Carolina. In 2014, researchers proposed moving this species to the genus Orthochilus. As of December 2023, this proposed transfer has not been accepted by Plants of the World Online. This species is one of multiple orchid species that share the common name "giant orchid".
