About Eugraphe sigma (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1775
This species, scientifically known as Eugraphe sigma (Denis & Schiffermüller), 1775, has forewings that measure 17–20 mm in length. Warren notes this species was previously recorded under multiple synonyms: R. sigma Schiff., characterea Esp., ditrapezium Esp. nec Schiff., signum Fab., and umbra View. The forewing is black brown or deep brown with a faint vinous tinge; the costal area is diffusely brownish-ochreous, and the wing lines are ochreous. The cell is dark brown. The upper stigmata are large, grey with black edges, while the claviform is small and blackish. The hindwing is dark fuscous. It is a central European species found in France, Switzerland, Germany, and Austria; it also occurs in Armenia, Siberia, and Amurland. The larva is reddish yellow, with white dorsal and lateral lines. Each segment bears a dark oblique bar, with a white dot above this bar. Larvae feed on low plants. The named form nubila Esp. has forewings with dull wood-coloured costal and apical areas.
